It is estimated that about 200–500 million practice meditation worldwide. Mindfulness is one of the many forms of meditation. This popular practice helps one purposely focus attention on the present moment. By learning to fully be in the present, mindfulness can help to improve one’s well being, helping those who practice mindfulness generate a satisfaction of the many pleasures in life as they occur.


Scientists have also discovered that mindfulness techniques can help relieve stress, treat heart disease, lower blood pressure, reduce chronic pain, improve sleep, and more. Psychotherapists have also turned to mindfulness to help treat depression, substance abuse, eating disorders, couples’ conflicts, anxiety disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
